Halloween is an exciting time of the year, full of festivities and fun! Halloween activities typically bring along the same hazards year after year. This week we will discuss some of those hazards and ways to avoid them so you and your loved ones can have a safety and happy Halloween.  

Monday – Halloween 

Today we will discuss ideas for getting the most out of your Halloween while keeping your loved ones safe.  

Halloween Events for the Family at home:  

• Spooky movie night: enjoy your favorite Halloween flicks, even dress up in your favorite character costumes!  

• Bring your favorite jack-o-lantern to life! Take care to avoid lacerations while carving those scary faces!  

• Create your favorite Halloween treats. This can be a delightful and delicious Halloween activity.  

Tuesday – Costume Safety 

Having a scary or fun costume for Halloween is the highlight for many who enjoy this special holiday. Today’s topic will provide some helpful tips for creating a safe costume experience.  

• All costumes, wigs and accessories should be fire resistant.  

• If trick or treating after dark, apply reflective tape to costumes and bags to increase visibility. 

• When buying Halloween makeup, make sure it is non-toxic and apply in a small area first to detect potential irritation.  

• Remove all makeup before going to bed to prevent skin and eye irritation.  

Wednesday – Safety Tips for Pedestrians 

Halloween night is typically when most celebrations are held, which means low light conditions. Today we will discuss tips for staying safe during the nighttime festivities.  

• If trick or treating, plan a safe route ahead of time.  

• Put electronic devices down and keep eyes forward, especially when traveling on the road.  

• For children, agree on a specific time to return home.  

Thursday – Safety Tips for Motorists 

Halloween night brings an increase in both pedestrian and vehicle traffic. With all the exciting places to go and people to see, let’s discuss tips for getting to your destination in a safe manner.  

• Be extra vigilant for pedestrians when driving in a high pedestrian traffic area.  

• Enter and exit driveways and alleys carefully.  

• At twilight and later in the evening, watch for trick or treaters in dark clothing.  

• Discourage new or inexperienced drivers from driving on Halloween.  

Friday – Open Discussion
